Collaborative and Distance Communication Platforms and Tools

What would we do with out technology.... We would not be able to see family in other states, countries or even a friend attending a different college in the same state. I don't always take advantage of this tool such as Skype, video message or many of the other communication platforms that are available.

Just the other day I was video messaging my brother who lives in Cali, he was working and was at the time riding in the back of his helicopter and was showing me the city below. It was awesome to see the city from above while being in another state sitting on the couch.

First I wanted to talk about one of the cons that I feel is the biggest problem with distant communication. If done to often with not any real interaction it can affect the real world interaction between you and that person. It becomes easy to talk to the person here and there over the Internet and then ending the phone call. The personal connection is one of the most valuables connections that one can have in this life. Instead of going to lunch with someone you can just sit down in the convenience of your own home.

The newest video chat I have recently done was through SnapChat. I love doing it through this app because it is so simple, fast, and easy. I can connect with the people that I already talk to a lot and already feel comfortable sending them pictures or videos of me. Not a lot of people that I know who have Snapchat have used this new feature.  Although some people that I would like to video message with don’t have Snapchat such as older relatives I still have to use my traditional Video message on my IPhone or Skype because it has been around.

  1. I have a mother who used to use Skype all the time when she wanted to connect with her siblings that still live in the Philippines. Now they all have Facebook and use the facebook feature of video calling and chatting. I personally use Google Hangouts when talking with my siblings. Super easy to use and has a lot of the features you mentioned above. Nice blog post.

  3. Sounds like we have similar living arrangements in terms of distance of family and how we communicate with them. Great post.
